Claudia's Background
As a candidate for the District 65 School Board, I offer over thirty years of international career experience in the private and public sectors. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in psychology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Shortly after graduation, I produced a weekly television show for the public television station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During those six years, many of my shows focused on the Milwaukee public schools, and I won a Wisconsin School Bell award for my reporting.
Life changes resulted in a career that has encompassed advertising, public relations, management information, project management, team building, and team leadership. My experience as a bank vice president, small business owner, computer project manager, journalist, and, most recently, classroom teacher, uniquely qualifies me to understand the diverse needs of Evanston’s K-8 schools.
My family lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, and London for twelve years, and my two sons attended international private schools in the twelve years we lived abroad. I was active in the PTAs of all the international schools my sons attended and served as a classroom and library volunteer.
I developed a passionate interest in education that led me to switch careers yet again. I obtained my Masters in Teaching from National Louis University and taught reading, language arts, and social studies at Haven Middle School for the last eleven years.
